| | | | HEADLINES | | | | | | | | | | | Buffalo Sweeps Toronto in Season Opener | | | | by admin posted 12/12/2011

The Buffalo Fusion opened thier 2011-2012 AIHL Season at home against newcomer to the AIHL, Toronto Thunder Hawks. Last season's elite league top goal scorer Denny Schlegel didn't waste any time getting on track this season. In a three game set with Toronto Thunderhawks, not only did the defending Great Lake Champs earn three victories, but Denny Schlegel tallied 6 goals and 11 assists to earn the early top spot in all offensive categories. Schlegel did all of this without his normal running mate Tyler Walser, last season's top scorer in the league. The offense was pleantiful for the Fusion, as they won 8-3, 11-3, and 10-5. While Schegel was a huge part of the Fusion offense once again, he wasn't all of it. First year playes Pat Gillen added 6 goals and 1 assist, Justin Banaszak 3 goals and 2 assists, and Chris Kendall added 1 goal and 6 assists to help lead Fusion to victory. Clearly the Fusion attack is deeper this season and with Walser on deck to come back, they are among the favorites in the AIHL Elite league this season.
Completing the scoring for Fusion Kevin Oconnor (3 goals, 4 assists), Mike Bienias (2 goals, 3 assists), Adam Berecz (4 goals) John Garvin (2 goals, 2 assists) Joe Malinowski (1 goal, 3 assists) and rounding out the scoring was Adam Szafranski with 1 goal.
Coach Patrick Bernas was pleased with his teams performance. "They battled hard and controlled the game tempo, it was a balanced attack. We still have to improve on a few areas" said Coach Patrick Bernas. We are looking forward to getting back to practice and working on our errors and preparing for the Pittsburg Bandits.
